Roger Casement Excellence Awards

Named after a courageous Irish humanitarian

The awards are named after Roger Casement, the Irish humanitarian, diplomat, and patriot who courageously exposed atrocities committed in the Congo Free State and dedicated his life to defending justice, human dignity, and human rights. Through these awards, CCI seeks to preserve his legacy and educate future generations about the historic relationship between Ireland and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Tribute to Irish Soldiers Who Served in the Congo

As part of the Roger Casement Excellence Awards, CCI hopes to pay tribute to the approximately 6,000 Irish soldiers who served in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Congo between 1960 and 1964. Special recognition would be given to:

• The Irish soldiers who lost their lives while serving in the Congo.
• The soldiers who fought during the Siege of Jadotville in September 1961.
• Those who served with courage during the Niemba Ambush in November 1960.
• The families and descendants of Irish peacekeepers who contributed to peace, stability, and international solidarity.

A historic friendship

CCI believes this tribute would strengthen the historic friendship between the peoples of Ireland and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
