The Congo Basin

The Congo Basin rainforest is a global carbon sink and the home of the bonobo — the closest living relative to humans alongside the chimpanzee — found only in the DRC.

National parks

Virunga, Salonga, Garamba and Kahuzi-Biéga: five UNESCO World Heritage sites protecting mountain gorillas, okapi, forest elephants and the Eastern lowland gorilla.

Conservation partnerships

CCI works with the Irish environmental community and DRC conservation NGOs to promote ethical eco-tourism and direct revenue to ranger communities on the front line.
